Obi Mikel Responds To Chelsea Links

By Daily Sports on March 13, 2020

Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has responded to reports indicating that he has been offered a coaching position at Chelsea.

The central midfielder, who is currently on the books of Turkish club Trabzonspor, enjoyed a successful 10-year spell with the English giants.

Mikel helped Chelsea win two English Premier League titles and UEFA Champions League trophy.

Recent reports have suggested that the 32-year-old is set to return to the Blues as an assistant to manager Frank Lampard.

However, Mikel, who featured in 372 games for Chelsea, has moved swiftly to dismiss the rumours.

“To be honest, I have no idea where this story came from,” Mikel told Sabah.

“I was surprised when I saw the news because neither me nor my club had a meeting with Chelsea about becoming a coach.

“Chelsea is, of course, my home, but the reports aren’t true.”

Mikel announced his retirement from international football last year after helping Nigeria finish third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals. (Sport Witness)
