Wanyama Completes MLS Switch

By Daily Sports on March 5, 2020

Victor Wanyama has joined Major League Soccer (MLS) side Montreal Impact.

The move brings an end to the Kenya international’s seven-year spell in the English Premier League.

Wanyama joined Southampton from Glasgow Celtic in July 2013, having first made a name for himself at Beerschot AC in Belgium.

The 28-year-old spent the last four years at Tottenham Hotspur, but leaves the North London club having made just four appearances across all competitions this season.

Wanyama will now be hoping to reignite his career in Canada where he will work under Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

He joins an impressive list of African stars in Montreal with Clement Diop (Senegal), Orji Okoronkwo (Nigeria) and Saphir Taïder (Algeria) currently plying their trade at the MLS club. Also on Impact’s books is former Barcelona forward Bojan.

The Canadian club will be hoping to improve on their ninth place finish in the Eastern Conference last season. Impact started the 2020 campaign with a 2-1 win over New England Revolution last weekend. (African Football)
