Danladi Resumes As Nasarawa United Chairman, Promises To Take Team Out Of Murky Waters

By Obaseki Anthony on February 16, 2020

Barrister Isaac Danladi officially resumed yesterday, Saturday, 15/2/2020, as Chairman of Nasarawa United Football Club, following his re-appointment by Governor Abdullahi Sule, barely seven months after his removal as helmsman of the Lafia-based team which currently finds itself in a murky relegation battle.

Danladi, who visited the team’s training session yesterday in Lafia ahead of tday’s home tie against Jigawa Golden Stars, said that the visit was to familiarise himself with the players and officials and chart ways to swim out of the murky waters, especially as the league enters its second and final round.

His words: “Sequel to our appointment as new Management, we felt it is necessary for us to visit the players during their training session at the Lafia City Stadium to formally introduce ourselves to the technical team and players, and have a word or two with them.

“It was also to encourage them because from the results they have been getting, even though not encouraging, but we don’t think they are a bad team.

“It’s all about dotting the ‘I’s and crossing the ‘T’s. We are here to encourage them, psyche them up, boost their morale.”

The seasoned football administrator, who doubles as Chairman of Clubs’ Owners Association of Nigeria, disclosed that the Nasarawa State Government stands firmly with the team.

“We are also here to tell them that the government is solidly behind them, and they should remain focused.

“Government is not unawares of the predicament they are going through but they should try as much as possible to scale the hurdles, even though their position on the table is precarious, Danladi said.

He said the new management would bring its experience to bear and work as a team for the purpose of getting desired results.

“We are going to bring our experience to bear. This is not the time to talk too much, but for action, merged with prayers.

“All hands must be on desk as football is a unit, and we have to work as a team to bring us out of these murky waters,” he stated.

He assured that the team would approach today’s week 20 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) tie against Jigawa Golden Stars with vigour so as to restore confidence in the team.

“Nasarawa United doesn’t play bad football and I have been following their match reports from all the games they have played this season, including picking vital away points against Dakkada, Akwa United, and MFM.

“Fortunately, we have three games at home in a roll and if we are able to win those matches and cash on other points away, by the special grace of God, we shall be able to leave that dangerous zone,” Danladi said.

He dismissed suggestions to reshuffle the team as ill-timed, saying: “You and I know that the transfer window has closed. It will be a wild goose chase if we begin to contemplate on rejigging the team.

“What we intend doing is to make the best out of the situation we find ourselves. We have to put the players in proper perspective. Let those who have business playing in the team play, and those who don't have business to play try hard to improve.

“We are going to put round pegs in round holes so that the team can rediscover its winning ways.”

The club chairman revealed that after the open session meeting, the Management held closed-door briefings with the team’s coaching crew and the captain together with his assistant to get advice on how to take the team out of its present condition. He said he was glad that they are doing everything humanly possible to ensure that the team returns to its winning mentality.

Only two days ago, Governor Abdullahi Sule, in furtherance to his administration’s commitment to repositioning and rebranding Nasarawa United Football Club, approved the dissolution of the Ibrahim Abdullahi Osanga-led Management and appointed a new five-man Management Team headed by Barrister Danladi.

Other appointed Management members are Mr. Rengo Jaafaru, Nuhu Liman Jinka, Rilwan Idris, while Solomon Babanjah returned to his former capacity as Team Manager.
