NUGA set to inspect facilities for 2016 University Games

By Daily Sports on January 16, 2016

The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) on Friday said it would inspect facilities at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, by the end of January for its 2016 Games.

The institution will host the 2016 edition of the Games scheduled for a yet-to-be-determined date.

NUGA Secretary Bola Orodele told NAN on telephone that though the NUGA team was at the university in 2015, the body needed to ascertain the level of preparedness toward the biennial competition.

“We were there sometime in 2015 to know how far the institution has gone in their preparation.

“We are going back to inspect the facilities there and also to discuss vital issues like the date for the event because a date has not been fixed.”

Orodele also appealed to corporate organisations to help to develop the Games which, he said, had discovered athletes like Olumide Oyedeji, the Captain of the national basketball team.

He disclosed that a company had shown sponsorship interest but some issues had not been settled, adding that it would not be a bad idea if other corporate entities support the Games.

“We are still appealing to more corporate organisations to assist NUGA because relying on government is not really helping.

“I wish there is a line in the budget allocated to NUGA.

“It would have helped since relying on government alone is not really helping, we have to strategise; we have our marketing department who are trying their best.

“We have seen one or two sponsors who have indicated interest, but we have not finalised discussions with them.” (NAN)
