Nigeria’s Women World Cup Group: Dennerby, Falcons on Trial

By Daily Sports on December 10, 2018

If you are among the school of thought that believes the entire hen is home to roost, you may not be totally wrong. The France 2019 World Women cup draws paired Nigeria against host country France, Korea Democratic Republic and Norway to slug it out in group A. Honestly, it won’t be a tea party for the group, especially Nigeria. It is also why this page last week harped on the need to cut short the celebration of the 9th victory of the team in Africa Women championship for earnest preparations for the forthcoming world women football summit.

It is now obvious the teams we are going to square up against and the need for adequate preparations to be put in place while the tide of our previous outings is hanged for now to allow for deeper concentration. It must not be treated with kid gloves and so enough quality friendlies must be organised to also reflect or justify the employment of a white man as the handler of the Super Falcons squad. The recent interview by Thomas Dennerby where he praised Bayana Bayana performance at the recently concluded AWON tournament as superb gave him out as one that has too much respect for opponents. He also pointed out that the Bayana Bayana technical hand has done a wonderful job on her team thereby having a good team she would be building steadily for the world football festival in France next year.

My simple take on this is that NFF must collaborate with Dennerby and his men to arrange first rate friendlies that would toughen the girls and also steady them out of making panicky mistakes as well as arrest other shortcomings manifested by the team which would be touched and corrected in readiness for the impending football battle of wits and brawns. There is no much talk than for those concerned to do the needful if the team is not going for the tournament as a mere spectator again.

Followers and analysts of this game at this level agreed that if all hands are on deck, the team would be different altogether despite the tough opposition it will face right from the group stage. These analysts further said that with enough focus, determination and zeal, nothing will be impossible to accomplish in the forthcoming showpiece. If you ask this reporter, next year’s tournament ought to mark a greater watershed in the sojourn of the side in the world stage of women world football summit. The team is a mixture of exposed and the young and such trademark if well harnessed would add the needed impetus on the team to zoom to greater heights and reset the hand of the history in the world for Africa.

An age-old adage said that there is no too much talk in what is obvious that has to be done in order to improve the status of collective bargain. For sure, Amaju Pinnick and his board know what to put in place to get the team going strong.

The girls are ready to fly if grandly prepared for the task ahead. Nigerians are watching keenly and would not take no for an answer. The team has the potentials to be a one-stop squad. It is in the hands of NFF and Thomas Dennerby to get the team going no matter the level of the opposition. We will as usual keep tabs on our social media handles, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn in order to follow this trend that would be the talk of the town through this week and the near future.  The group A where Nigeria is paired is no joke but with determination, we will be there. Keep shooting hard till next week!!
