Nigeria rallied from the brink of defeat on Wednesday to win 3-2 against Cameroon at the 2018 Under-21 Boys Africa Volleyball Nations Cup in Abuja.

They were 10 points away from losing their opening game as the competition got underway at the Abuja National Stadium, but a spirited performance saw them completing a grand comeback.

In spite of leading on many occasions, the Nigerian side lost the opening two sets 24-26 and 23-25.

But, urged on by the small band of vociferous home crowd, they stormed back to win the third and fourth sets 25-21 and 25-16.

After restoring hope, the Nigerian team soon dampened their fans’ morale by quickly going 0-5 behind in the rubber fifth set.

However, an inspiring comeback saw the Nigerian side storming back to lead all the way to a 15-9 win.

Earlier in the day at the competition, Morocco beat Chad in three straight sets to take a commanding lead in their group.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that four other teams are in the competition which ends next Wednesday, with four matches being played daily. (NAN)
